Shown above are two R. Murphy carving and dental lab knives (long-bladed, 1-7/8"). I consider this tool a must-have for fitting dovetails. I almost always take a shallow scoop out of the back inside corners of my tails, starting below the top corner (so it doesn’t show) down to the baseline. Then, I come across with the knife right at the baseline to cut off the small it of waste created by the scoop cut.
