Is there any chance y’all could do a video showing how y’all line and mark the rules with the horizontal lines that turns them from a regular rule into a LAP rule?
They were part of Lufkin at one point. In 1915, Lufkin started manufacturing folding boxwood rules, aiming to take over the market. They cloned the Stanley models & their numbers. At the same time, Stanley was cutting back as the demand for folding boxwood rules dropped.
I recently restored a 4 fold 24" rule with brass binding on one edge. Its a better design IMO than the zigzag rulers. I'd love a 4ft version
I love this ruler. It's exactly like one I acquired in an English joiner's tool chest from the 1850s and shared with Chris. I use it (the LAP/Skowhegan ruler) on every project.
They are such beautiful rulers: marked along both long edges, in ⅛ths on one face and 1/16ths on the opposite. About ¼" thick.
Attractive lightly figured maple that feels warm to the touch in use, with brass "end caps" at both ends. Ergonomics are very good and well thought-out.
A bit pricey perhaps, but for something this well made, this good looking, and this much pleasure to use, it's worth the splurge.
Packaging for shipment was perfect: mine were shipped ¾ the way across the country and arrived in flawless condition.
Sorry to hear they have stopped making them. Thank you for the tip; I have a six footer I still need to meld to my workbench but I picked up one of their 24" rulers.

Too bad. I used mine today. Several times. Guess I better order a spare or two.
