If, somehow, I could teach my cats to sharpen, all of the mess would be outside the tray, and none inside.

Baggmucks also perfectly fit eighteen 4" pots with tomato seedlings in the spring, keeping the water off your floors and tables. Double them up to move the pots inside and out for hardening.

Out here in the West Kentucky wilderness - no Ikia. Walmart has a nice boot tray for $6.97. I have a couple of them to contain various messes.

DEAR MEGAN,

I TRIED TO RESPOND TO YOUR 'RETURN' MESSAGE BUT IT DID NOT GO THROUGH.

I DID NOT MEAN TO BE SNARKY; I DO, VERY MUCH, RETRACT WHATEVER I SAID TO OFFEND YOU. PLEASE, FORGIVE ME. GENE

HEY LADIES, GIVE ME A BREAK ! SEVERAL YEARS AGO, CHRIS DID AN AUTHORITATIVE YOUTUBE IN WHICH HE SKILLFULLY LAID OUT HIS ENTIRE SHARPENING KIT . . . TO INCLUDE AN EXTRA LARGE BOOT TRAY WITH "FANCY STUPIDNESS" ON THE BOTTOM.

L.A.P. HAS BEEN THERE - DONE THAT.

And good morning to you, too. Thanks for following everything we've done for the last X number of years – but please keep in mind that some people here are new.

Didn't Chris post recently about a cover for his sharpening tray? Or was that a targeted ad from someone else?

That was a "Mind Upon Mind" on the blog – two school lunch trays (a good idea...but not _quite_ large enough to hold all my sharpening stuff)

Aha! Thanks. Now I'm thinking about half-size commercial baking pans...but that smooth bottom won't really be right to keep the stones in place.

"that smooth bottom won't really be right to keep the stones in place."

Hehehe

I have a sink in my current shop, so my sharpening is focused around that. But I will soon be moving (ugh) to a new (to be built, ugh) shop that won't have water, so I will have to learn the ways of the boot tray and spray bottle. Thanks.

“Dirty girl” eh!? Now I’m really intrigued. Got to hear more about that when you are in the mood. But I’m also curious about the tray - is it stiff enough to lift when it’s full of stones? I tried some that weren’t so I wound up with a metal one and it has a cover also which I like. One downside though, it’s a bit too deep. The stones are about flush with the top edge which is often problematic. Nice post, thank you.

I'm simply a bit of a slob. Yes, it's rigid enough if you grasp both ends while lifting. Chris has a piece of 1/8" hardboard in his, though, which adds more rigidity.

The price change you encountered for the Pet Smart tray? Yeah, that’s called targeted pricing. Get used to it folks. Customized pricing of goods just for you. Brought to you by the billionaire class. Ain’t it great?

Oh, and that IKEA tray is great. Been using it since they introduced BAGGMUCK.

We had a gray silicone pad like this for our cats' food dishes, but my wife wanted something more decorative. We replaced that one, and it moved into the shop for sharpening. I'm chalking this up as a slightly better price of free, since it was just going to go in the trash instead. :)

Still, they're useful as hell for keeping the mess contained instead of having oil and crap all over the bench where I plan on having wood.
